Nicole Stoddart takes regional beauty title
Standing regally at five feet, nine inches, 25-year-old Nicole Stoddart was selected Miss Jamaica North East 2015 in a contest at Jewel Dunn's River Resort, St Ann, on Tuesday night.
"It's an amazing feeling, trust me," Stoddart told The Gleaner after being crowned by last year's queen, Diane Brown. "It has been a lifelong dream for me and seeing everything unfold for me it is superb. It's an amazing feeling," she added.
Samantha Williams was first runner-up and, along with Stoddart, goes straight to the Miss Jamaica Universe 2015 finals in Kingston later this year. Second runner-up was Tamika Williams, with Camilla Gayle and Trishana Black completing the top five.
Stoddart said she is ready and looking forward to the finals, where she believes her personality will be a key factor in determining how well she does. "I am ready, I am ready, I am ready," she asserted.
"I am looking forward to everything - meeting the other girls, I'm looking forward to working hard. I'm dedicated and I'm ready. I think my personality, my drive for success, my determination to help and to uplift people around me, I think those are some of the key factors that will make me stand out from the rest of the girls."
The selection was done in front of a specially invited group of persons, in the absence of an open show with paid attendees. However, this did not detract from the quality presented by the eight contestants.
They looked fabulous in their various outfits and no doubt gave judges Dr Lambert Brown, franchise holder Karl Williams, reigning Miss Universe Kaci Fennell, and Shirley Sanglemire a hard time in picking the top contestants.
In the end, though, on the way to winning the crown Stoddart picked up sectional prizes for being Most Congenial and Best in Gown. Samantha Williams collected prizes for Best Skin Tone and Most Aware, with Tamika Williams awarded for Best Smile and Best Stage Presence.
The sectional prize of Best Beach Body went to Camilla Gayle.
