One Direction to go in several

The chart-topping group One Direction - which features Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson - have mutually agreed to an extended hiatus of at least 12 months in order to pursue their own solo projects. They will not launch a tour to support the launch of their fifth album, meaning their last full concert will be in Sheffield at the end of October.

A source said: "The guys have been together for five years, which is an incredible run for any boyband. They fully deserve to have at least a year to work on their own projects. There is absolutely no bad blood between them and they are all 100 per cent behind the decision."

"It is definitely not a split, and they fully intend to get back together at some time in the future, but for now, it is the end and they go out on top as the world's most popular music act."

The Steal My Girl hitmakers intend to release their latest album in time for Christmas and will fulfil the remainder of their promotional commitments for record label Syco in February. The insider shared: "Simon Cowell and his team at Syco couldn't be more excited about the album. They believe there are at least three smash hit songs and they've got the boys to stay together for a few weeks beyond the end of the year to make the album a huge success."

"But there was a meeting recently where it was agreed there would be no tour for the album. That was a big call because it means come March, Harry, Liam, Louis and Niall will be free agents for the first time in five years."

The source insisted to The Sun newspaper that the decision to disband was unrelated to Zayn Malik walking away from the group earlier this year.

Beauty to a formula

Sofia Vergara has her beauty look "down to a science". The 43-year-old actress, who is engaged to True Blood star Joe Manganiello, has revealed plans for her wedding day are progressing smoothly and she's confident of looking her very best when the big moment arrives.

She shared: "I have it down to a science. I know it will take me two hours."

The Modern Family star revealed that her own fragrance will play a central role on the wedding day. She said: "I'm going to wear my fragrance - Sofia - because Joe loves it!"

As well as taking care of her own appearance, Sofia admitted she is determined to ensure that the day is one to remember for everyone involved. She told Martha Stewart Wedding magazine: "I want a wedding where the guests are going to have fun."

Sofia recently confessed to wanting "fake boobs" because her bust is losing its firmness.

The actress is well known for her curvaceous figure, and while she has never been unhappy with her breasts before now, admitted that they are starting to lose their perkiness.

Sofia said: "I wish I had fake boobs. When I lay down, they go down to here (points). It's not funny!"

Tom Cruise skips stepdad's funeral

Tom Cruise reportedly didn't attend his stepfather's funeral.

The Oscar-nominated star, whose stepfather, John South was married to his mother, Mary Lee Pfeiffer, for 32 years, opted against attending the funeral earlier this month. Neither did he visit him in hospital after John was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Speaking before his death, John was asked whether Tom, 53, had visited him since his health had deteriorated, to which he replied: "No. It's been a while. I'd rather not go into that because I take care of myself the best I can."

Despite this, John - who also has children from a previous marriage - tried to defend the Hollywood star by insisting he was unlikely to have been aware of his declining health.

He told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: "I don't want to bother him with it. I'm more concerned by my immediate family."

By contrast, Tom described John as a "wise" and "smart man" in an interview in the mid-1980s. The Mission Impossible actor shared: "In the beginning, I felt threatened by my stepfather. There's a part of you that's in love with your mother. But John is such a wise, smart man. He loved my mother so much that he took us all in, four young people."

Backlash against Israel visit

Mayim Bialik was criticised on social media after visiting Israel.

The 39-year-old actress, who is best known for her starring roles on Blossom and The Big Bang Theory, has revealed a recent trip to the Middle Eastern country caused quite a stir on social media.

Bialik, who is Jewish and visited a friend in the Israel Defense Forces, shared: "I've gotten a lot of negative attention for visiting Israel. That's what's amazing ... Simply by going to Israel this summer and saying nothing more than 'I've gone to Israel', I got the same amount of hatred and threats and anti-Semitism for actually making a statement trying to support people whether I like it or not are serving in an army."

The actress also accused the entertainment industry of being unfriendly towards people of faith. She told FOX411: "I think in general, it's never going to be trendy to be observant or religious in Hollywood circles.

"There are people I know of faith and we tend to congregate together. I study Jewish texts weekly. That's something really positive to me when you're a person of faith. It stays with you all the time."

Lohan to write

style book

Lindsay Lohan is to write an "educational" book on style and fashion. The Mean Girls actress has reportedly turned down publishers' bids for a tell-all book but is happy to share her thoughts on one of her major passions.

A source told the New York Post newspaper: "Lindsay has had numerous offers to do a tell-all book about her time in rehab, her brushes with the law, her crazy family, or to lift the lid on the less glamorous side of a Hollywood starlet, but she refused those offers and she's working on something related to style and fashion and her travels - an educational book."

The 29-year-old star has been out of the spotlight over the last few months, spending the summer travelling across Europe, including enjoying a few weeks in Mykonos, Greece, with some of her wealthy friends like film producer Mohammed Al Turki.

Prior to her travels, Lindsay said living and working in London had given her an opportunity to make a fresh start.

Speaking in June, she said: "I'm in a really good place. I'm blessed to have been able to do a play in London and start a different way of life. New York is very fast-paced, and it's not like that over here for me. You grow up and change, and I'm really happy about that as overall, I feel a lot better."

Swift turns down £2m for three songs

Taylor Swift reportedly turned down £2 million to perform three songs at a billionaire's wedding.

The 25-year-old singer was offered the eye-watering sum by an unnamed tycoon but instead opted to head to the Los Angeles home of one of her closest friends, model and actress Jaime King, who was celebrating the christening of her five-week-old son Leo.

A guest explained: "Taylor arrived with her own music backing tracks and belted out some of her biggest hits, including Love Story, I Knew You Were Trouble, and Red.

She even rocked little Leo in her arms and hummed a lullaby to him, but he started screaming almost immediately, so she sheepishly handed him back to his mom."

The guest praised Taylor's decision to decline the lucrative offer in favour of her friend. The visitor told the Sunday Express newspaper. "You have to admire her for putting friendship ahead of financial considerations. She said no to a small fortune so she could bring happiness to a good friend."

Taylor attended the celebration with her boyfriend, Calvin Harris, and told Jaime - who is married to Hollywood screenwriter and director Kyle Newman - "how lucky she was to have such a wonderful family".

Khalifa cuffed over hoverboard

Wiz Khalifa was handcuffed by police officers at LAX for refusing to get off his hoverboard.

The 27-year-old rap star, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, has taken to his Instagram account to share a video of the bizarre incident at the airport in Los Angeles. He is seen face-down, with several officers stood over him and standing with his arms behind his back.

Wiz captioned the video: "3 cops yell stop resisting. Only thing to do is let em know I'm not resisting, I'm doin what I want."

In the clip, the officers can be heard telling the See You Again hitmaker to stop resisting their efforts to restrain him, and Wiz replies: "I'm not resisting, sir. I'm not resisting. I'm not resisting, sir."

Wiz also posted another clip of the confrontation, showing him being stopped by officers while he stood on his hoverboard. He told them: "You can't do nothing anyway. What're you going to do? Put me into jail because I'm not going to listen to what you say?"

"You can't do nothing. You can talk and have all the conversations that you want to. You can end up on TMZ. You guys could be as famous as you want to be."
