Havana Showgirls Club opens in Ocho Rios
The adult entertainment scene in Ocho Rios received a boost recently with the opening of the Havana Showgirls Club, at the former Falcon Crest Hotel, near the centre of the resort town.
Boasting one of the tallest dance poles in Jamaica and dancers who can thrill an audience, the adults-only club opened around two weeks ago and has been receiving favourable support according to Patrick Hyatt, marketing and promotions manager.
"We offer adult entertainment, we have different themes each night," Hyatt explained.
"We have club nights that you come and party, we have a night when we do bikini boxing, with the girls boxing in bikinis; we have the regular freaky night; and we have the pool party Sundays.
Mondays will be Havana Live Karaoke Style, when the feature will be karaoke with singers from Kingston journeying to the north coast to compete against singers from Ocho Rios.
There is something for everybody at Havana Club, even for tourists, as the club will soon introduce a daily show for cruise-ship passengers when ships dock in the town.
The opening of the club is a boost for night life in Ocho Rios, and patrons seem to appreciate this.
"Honestly, the response has been a bit tremendous so far," Hyatt explained. "We haven't done any great promotion as yet, we're basically testing the waters, and Ocho Rios seems to love the concept and [is] willing to work with us, so we're just here to deliver."
Hyatt says Havana Club is not here to compete but to fit into the entertainment scene in Ocho Rios and make their patrons happy.
Apart from planning shows for tourists, there are several other events in the works for Havana Club, including shows featuring international pole dancers.
There's also a round-robin event coming up at the venue in the near future.
In the meantime, expectations are high that the club will maintain and maybe even surpass the level of support it has seen over the past couple of weeks since it opened.
According to a positive Hyatt, "It's not only for Ocho Rios but further afield, like Kingston and so on, everybody can come and be entertained at the Havana Club, Ochi."
