Zamunda expands musical reach - Starts own label, releases new single
Still gaining props from his 2009 hit song, Jah Love Surround Me, St Ann-based reggae singer Zamunda (real name Christopher Gayle) has his sights set on expanding his reach in reggae music for 2016.
The singer recently started his own company and launched his label, Sweet Water Spawn Music, through which he has released his latest single, Missing You, which he produced himself, with an accompanying video directed by Mental Chung.
According to Zamunda, Missing You is a gentle love song with sweet, tempting melodies and is already doing well for him.
"Missing You, is currently getting a lot of airplay and the video is doing well. people like it, so I'm pushing it right now," Zamunda told Entertainment Avenue.
Apart from producing his own material, Zamunda is also producing other artistes. At the moment, he has two upcoming acts working with, Rockland and Lloyd Anderson, both of them already voicing material for the new producer.
"You know we have to put the upcoming artistes up front same way because you can't do it alone. Music can never be a selfish game, so you have to spread the love, spread the glory, spread the joy among everyone," he said.
With the new single and new role of producer, Zamunda has started the year off on the right footing after spending the majority of 2015 in the studio voicing tracks for a new album being produced by Tads International. The album is set for release later this year.
"Last year was one where I was actually in studio doing a lot of work because you know that music is not really a rush thing, it's a timely thing. So I was in studio creating this album for Tads International, which will be my first album," he said.
Zamunda has also been voicing many singles for his label as he seeks to establish his brand. Additionally, he has been working with YGF Records, headed by producer Tevin Richards, and has also recorded several singles with that label.
Another positive for Zamunda this year is that he will be touring Africa, with shows being lined up for him in Angola, Gambia, and other countries, as he says, "2016 is a year now when Zamunda is going to launch to a different level, yuh know wha mi a seh? Is a good look," said the singer.
