Jeffrey 'Assassin' Campbell has long established 'Agent Sasco' as another performance name. And there have been occasions such as Rebel Salute 2010 at the Port Kaiser Sports Club, St Elizabeth when Sasco has deliberately been given more promotion prominence than the Assassin under which he first caught public attention in the early 2000s.

During Tuesday's Reggae Talk at the Medical Sciences complex, University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, he told the audience how Agent Sasco came to coexist with Assassin. It is a name born out of death, a haircut, an album and a BMW.

He made it clear that he has not changed his name, but added something 'to the whole vibe'.

It happened in 2005, the year his mother died after two years of living with the illness. It was also the year that Assassin bought himself a new BMW and his first album was released.

"You can imagine the emotional roller coaster," he said.

Assassin's mother died on Friday, October 28. He had grown his hair, which he wore in plaits and cornrows. On Saturday, October 29, he cut it. The purpose was to distract people, "so when you see me you no say 'you just lose your mother' - you say 'you cut your hair'."

Adjustments

Going into the 'January morning' of 2006, he decided to adjust his name, reflecting a renewal of purpose. At first it was going to be Agent 006 to reflect the year, but that raised the matter of becoming Agent 007 the number of the renowned Ian Fleming character, James Bond. That led to thoughts of becoming Agent 00, to indicate infinity.

However, persons were already calling him many versions of Assassin, including Sasco, so Agent Sasco it became.

There were also some factors that weighed against Assassin, one local and the other international. On the worldwide front, the deejay said after 9/11 the name Assassin became 'a little jarring. It just ticklish'.

Then, in Jamaica, at about the time he was doing a he was doing a university degree, Assassin was part of a JAMPRO campaign, along with sportsman Courtney Walsh and two other persons. He was given a plaque, then the following day, some people raised concerns about 'how this going work' Assassin and Jamaica flag.

Added to that was his searching Assassin on the Internet and got a number of results that did not include him, including the Assassin's Creed video game.

He noted that the deejay name Assassin came about when he was about 15 or 16 years old, and now, "me have a family and all them thing", so the addition of Agent Sasco reflects a more mature person. So, Agent Sasco said, "I have to do music that is in alignment with how I want to express myself."
