Rainy revelry

Bacchanal Carnival Road March 2016 pulled thousands of revellers and bystanders to the streets of St Andrew yesterday to indulge in a day filled with music, beautiful people and colourful costumes.

The Road March started at Mas Camp, Arthur Wint Drive, at minutes after 10 a.m. and grew with every step.

This year was similar to the 2013 staging, with rain being a part of the experience. However, the natural blessing only helped to heighten the entertainment value as patrons danced, sang and basked in the weather without complaint. Some vendors took advantage of the opportunity and sold plastic bags for as much as $100 to revellers to protect their cellphones.

Some trucks offered more excitement than others. Among the standouts were the Digicel and Fame FM trucks, which had patrons moving from truck to truck aiming to maximise the excitement.

Not so new songs like Worst Behaviour by Skinny Fabulous and Live Mi Life by Machel Montano and Differentology by Bunji Garlin were still obvious crowd favourites. Newer songs like Cheers To Life by Voice and Bicycle Ride by Bunji Garlin and Vybz Kartel made a good impression. Charly Black's Gyal You A Party Animal made the crowd go insane.

The police and security officials were out in numbers, ensuring revellers were not disturbed by persons who sought to hijack the proceedings. Aside from some shoving, the event was incident free.

The Bacchanal Road March concluded at Mas Camp. Soca artistes like Kes The Band and Lyrical made their presence felt via impromptu performances.
