Fire Links Creates Waves On Billboard
Veteran dancehall producer/selector Fire Links has reason to celebrate this week. His collaboration with Kanye West titled Waves has made its debut at number 71 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The song, featured on Kanye West's new album, The Life Of Pablo, has been released over a month. However, since the album was only recently made available on streaming service, Tidal, sales of the record weren't as visible to tracking companies such as Billboard.com until this week.
Speaking on the collaboration with Kanye West, Fire Links told The Gleaner, "It's definitely a great feeling. Something like this never happen within my league as a selector. It's a great, great accomplishment. Me and Samboni deh a Hot Mondays a hold a vibes and somebody message him say Bubba did it again. I was so excited like when mi get mi sound and a hear it a play for the first time," he said.
Waves is also featured at number 24 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop songs chart. Fire Links said the effort will expose him to a wider audience.
"This is a whole new audience hearing my voice with a Grammy act (Kanye), who is also big on the international scene, using my voice right through his track. This goes to show that hard work pays off. The slang ('Tun It Up') do from bout 2000. You haffi just put in the work and hope for the best," said Fire Links.
MARLEY STILL CHARTING
Meanwhile, Bob Marley and the Wailers continue to make history on the Reggae Billboard chart. Tuff Gong recently announced that fans of reggae music will be able to purchase records from Bob Marley and the Wailers at reduced rates in celebration of International Record Store Day. Coincidentally, Bob Marley and the Wailers' Easy Skanking In Boston 78 album has returned to the top 10 of the Billboard Reggae Chart and is now enjoying its 53rd week on the chart.
Notably, Alkaline has fallen from the number-one spot after spending only a week with his effort, New Level Unlocked.
