Songbird Tessanne Chin has been selected as the special musical guest for this year's staging of the annual Jamaica Music Camp.

In her role, Chin is expected to teach the camp's masterclass.

Director of the camp Leora O'Carroll made the disclosure during an interview with The Sunday Gleaner as she expressed how excited the organisers of the camp were to have Chin on board.

"Last year, we had one of the greats of the music world giving the masterclass at the Jamaica Music Camp - Barry Tuckwell, OBE - and it was important to me to maintain that standard for the camp, and Tessanne was the natural choice," she said. "She is a world-class performer who is also Jamaican. This makes her the ideal musician to give the masterclass," she added.

In this masterclass, Chin is expected to give feedback and suggestions to campers who perform for her. She will also do a question-and-answer session with the campers in which they will be given the opportunity to quiz the singer on her music career and more. She is also expected to have dinner with them at the end of the camp.

O'Carroll told The Sunday Gleaner that she expects the sessions with Chin to be very impactful as the children already look up to her as a role model.

"I know Tessanne will be very inspiring and because she is so exceptional musically, she will have much to share to help these young performers," she said. "The campers are beyond excited at the idea that they will get to meet and learn from Tessanne Chin. She is a terrific role model for the campers."

O'Carroll also revealed that the children aren't the only ones excited as Chin is overwhelmed at being given the opportunity to be part of the 2016 Jamaica Music Camp experience.

"Her manager, when she confirmed that Tessanne would participate, wrote me to say that Tessanne is superexcited about this opportunity and is thrilled to be present this year."

The Jamaica Music Camp is in its third year and is set to take place at The Tryall Club near Montego Bay from July 6-16. This year's summer camp is open to children between the ages of nine and 17. The participants are not required to have any previous musical experience. Interested parents can get all details and sign-up information at:
