Sturridge To Host 3rd Annual Charity Fun Day, Reggae Concert
Goalscoring Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge returns to Jamaica to host the third annual charity family fun day, football tournament and reggae concert.
Organised with his family foundation and record label, The Sturridge Foundation, the event is set for Saturday, July, 16, at the Buckfields playing field in Ocho Rios. The 5-A-Side football tournament starts at 9 a.m. Admission to all events are free all day and night.
A reggae concert is being organised during the night featuring Sizzla, Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Jah Miel, I-Octane, Spice, Aidonia, Ishawna, Jah Son (Sturr Class), Vershon, Romain Virgo, Sielle, Kiprich, Spice, George Nooks and others. DJ Pepsi of Sturr Class Entertainment, Illusion Sound, Badda Bling, and Dj Freestyle, will provide music. Ron Muschette and Diva Nikki Z will be the hosts.
The Sturridge Foundation has staged three successful family days in Kingston, which have given thousands of youngsters and their families the chance to enjoy a great day out, live music and some competitive (and not so competitive) football, netball and basketball.
In a personalised video sent to Jamaica, Sturridge said, "I want to invite everybody to come to Buckfields playing field in Ochi, St, Ann, to celebrate the event with us this year. We have had three events in Jamaica so far that have been successful, but we hope that this time will be even better. Hope that you can come, share the happiness, enjoy the day with us and we can put some smiles on people's faces. I will definitely be there to celebrate with you all, so see you soon."
Coming from a lineage of football players, Daniel's uncle, Dean Sturridge, was a star. Two of his other uncles played for Derby County and Stoke City. His father, Michael, played football in Finland and is the CEO of Sturridge Foundation. It is very important to the Sturridge family to be able to make a positive contribution to Jamaica annually as Jamaicans living in England.
Daniel Sturridge is the first and only player to score in the English Premier League, FA Cup, and FA Youth Cup in the same season, a feat he achieved as a teenager at Manchester City during the 2007-2008 season. He is also the youngest player ever in the history of football to win the Champions League, Premier League and an FA Cup. He is also the only Premier League player to score on all of his debuts; for Manchester City, Chelsea, Bolton and Liverpool FC, as well as in his World Cup debut against Italy.
This year's activities are sponsored by Grace Foods.
