Festival Queen to be crowned today

The Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Grand Coronation will be held today at the Independence Village, Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, Hope Road, starting at 8:00 p.m. Thirteen talented and creative young ladies will compete for the crown. The coronation is being held under the 2016 Emancipation and Independence theme 'Let's Get Together and Feel Alright'.

The parish queens who will compete for the title of Miss Jamaica Festival Queen 2016 are Shannay Williams (Miss St Thomas), Shanique Shand (Miss Kingston and St Andrew), Godiva Golding (Miss St Catherine), Meisha Richardson (Miss Clarendon), Sharmica Holness (Miss Manchester), Ann-Marie Elliott (Miss St Elizabeth), Feleisha Samuels (Miss Westmoreland), Chevaun Gray (Miss Hanover), Kyesha Randall (Miss St James), Kacia Whilby (Miss Trelawny), Khadena Matthews (Miss St Ann), Monique Patrice Robb (Miss St Mary) and Kristina Newby (Miss Portland).

In addition to the crown, the cultural ambassadors are also competing for attractive prizes, including more than $1 million in cash and prizes from sponsors such as the CHASE Fund, Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC), the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA), Kirk Distributors, Lasco Financial Services, Excelsior, Spring Time, Jergens/Biore, Christar Villas and the Digicel Foundation.

According to the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission's director of marketing and public relations, Stephen Davidson, "The 2016 parish queens are impressive and brilliant young ladies who are determined to make their own stamp on the competition while contributing to community and national development."

Davidson also encouraged persons to come out to this year's grand Coronation as "it promises to be an exceptional show".

Entertainment will be provided by Thriller U, Adahzeh Band and Querido 'Quecee' Howell.
