In an atmosphere reminiscent of the classic and which promises similar glamour and style, the Jamaica Cancer Society (JCS) will host its annual Tea and Art Fundraising Party under the theme 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'.

Geared to enjoying the 'finer things of life', this fundraiser by the JCS will take place on Wednesday, August 24, at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel, the renowned venue for afternoon high tea. The function will get underway at 3:30 p.m.

"This is a special treat of high tea and fine art for well-wishers, supporters and friends of the Jamaica Cancer Society, to spend an elegant afternoon of fun and fundraising in support of a worthy cause," says JCS Executive Director Mrs Yulit Gordon.

Last year's inaugural staging of the afternoon of elegance was a huge success and "we are truly grateful to the many individuals and sponsors who supported the event", Gordon added.

The funds raised were used by the Cancer Society to provide free screening to women who visited the society's screening clinic and were not able to give the required contribution to access these life-saving tests.

In 2015, some 8,906 women accessed the mammography screening services of the JCS with another 11,714 women having their Pap Smears done at the society.

"This is just a drop in the bucket," says Gordon, adding that "thousands more women are in need of screening, but unfortunately, are unable to access it, due to a lack of financial resources, awareness, and education. The mission of the Jamaica Cancer Society is to bridge this gap, and the success of our various fundraising activities, including this tea and art auction, is important to achieving that goal".

The Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel will roll out its full High Tea Menu for the event while members of the Jamaica Guild of Artists will exhibit select pieces of art, with part proceeds of each piece sold being donated to the JCS. Among the artists whose works will be on sale are Lennox Coke, Sonya Richards, Betty Glanville, Coyotito Bennett and Margaret McGhee.

In addition to mingling with the line of local artists, patrons will be entertained by the incomparable Dennis Rushton Quartet.

The 'flight of fancy' fundraising classic of the JCS, has received sponsorship from the Jamaica National Building Society, Massy Distributors, Supreme Ventures, Select Brands, Swiss Stores, Jewel Runaway Bay Beach and Golf Resort.
