The curtain goes up on October 7 to 9, at the Little Theatre in Kingston for the 35th Anniversary season of Movements Dance Company of Jamaica.

Under the theme, More than Conquerors, Movements will celebrate a journey that began in 1981 and continues today with a product that has made Movements on of the foremost exponents of modern contemporary dance in the Caribbean.

"We are indeed more than conquerors, Campbell McFarlane said, "We have braved the challenges of raising up an institution that has become an important landmark for dance theatre in Jamaica and we have overcome many odds that seemed almost insurmountable when we started in 1981, when for over 20 years, only one other company had overcome the test of time."

The season will feature new dance works and selected favourites from its repertoire enriched by the work of distinguished local and international choreographers. They include celebrated international choreographer Christopher Huggins, whose Wrath of God, took Jamaican dance theatre by storm. For 2016, Huggins has created another major dance work, Father Father, which will have its World Premiere, on October 7, 2016.

Established in 1981 by four former students of the late Eddy Thomas - Monica Campbell McFarlane, CD; Patricia Grant Heron; Michelle Tappin-Lee; and Denise Desnoes - Movements has become known for its vibrant and distinctly Jamaican interpretation of modern contemporary dance.

"It is a really good feeling to be able to reflect on the steady stream of the tremendous dancing talent that the Company has produced over 35 years and the powerful repertoire we have accumulated, including input from some of the finest local and international artistes.

With an exciting mix of established favourites and new works, the 2016 season promises to be one of the most powerful statements of the work of Movements Dance Company of Jamaica.

Patron of the 35th Anniversary Season is Mr Earl Jarrett, CD, general manager, Jamaica National, a long standing sponsor of the Company and one of the main sponsors of this year's season.
