The Bob Marley Foundation, One Love Foundation, Ben and Jerry's, and Partners for Youth Empowerment (PYE) are asking schools across the island to apply to participate in their annual One Love Youth Camp set to take place early next year.

Now in its third year, the Camp is a local youth-empowerment programme that uses creativity and the arts to bring about social change. The programme aims to continue Bob Marley's legacy and is made possible with the assistance from partner Ben & Jerry's. The latter helps fund the One Love Youth Camp through the sale of a special commemorative ice cream flavour - One Love - making the One Love Youth-Camp free for teachers and youth.

Participating teachers receive professional development training in PYE Global's Creative Community Model, a youth engagement methodology, gaining knowledge and tools to create learning environments where youth can thrive. The teachers then uses the new skills they have acquired at the five-day residential camp, helping youth ages 13-17 unlock their creativity, increase confidence, and build life and leadership skills.

Marie Bruce, general manager at the Bob Marley Foundation, said that through the programme, the foundation continues to shape the lives of many and hopes that the partnership grows to serve more institutions in the near future.

"We are pleased with the growth of the camp's reach over the past three years and look forward to working with PYE Global to serve even more schools and students this year," she said.

Over the last two years, The One Love Youth Camp has benefited more than 4,000 young people in Jamaica through practitioner training and residential camps.

"The One Love Youth Camp has positively affected youth in Jamaica, providing social and interpersonal tools they can use throughout life," Ziggy Marley said in a press release sent to The Gleaner. "The youth are our future, and we are excited to work with our partners at PYE Global and Ben & Jerry's to continue to make positive impact."

Organisers revealed that programme spaces are limited and encouraged representatives from interested schools to fill out the online application form at Applications are due by December 16, 2016. Selected schools will be notified by December 28.
