Raine Seville looks back at 2016

In 2016, Raine Seville was featured in Boss Magazine boasting a new style and renewed approach toward her career. Her music video Touch has recently been added to BET Soul, which will be broadcasting across the BET and VH1 platform. After signing to Island Jams Records in 2016 Raine sat down with a team of producers and promoters to develop a strategic plan for success.

The first of many moves was to increase her visibility both at home and abroad, "We understand that reggae and dancehall music is evolving and in order to adapt to this changing genre our artiste must be able to travel and tour. We had her on a three week US tour that highlighted her singing and performing ability as an artiste. During this period she graced the stage with Taurus Riley in Connecticut, Assassin at the Philly Jerk Festival and headlined the first dancehall music festival in Washington DC," said Oneil Brown of Island Jams Records.

She also performed in New York City and Atlanta. During those performances she was able to showcase a more aggressive dancehall style. Seville shared the stage with Mavado and Rapper Busta Rhymes at the annual Dusk till Dawn Concert Series.

"With my degree in international marketing, one of the most important things to me is branding," Seville explained. "I am now the brand ambassador for the new Green Haze Hookah Bar and Lounge located in New Kingston. I have a new drink called Climax that is featured there. I am surely excited to be a part of the classy trend and look forward to representing them well," said Raine.

"I have two tracks prereleased, titled Hype TV and Top Gyal Sitn. I have a R&B song coming soon, with the same name as my drink Climax, produced in the USA by Island Jams Records. You will be seeing a lot more from me, with songs like Missing You, Party Time and many more for 2017 if the power that be allows, so with that I have to thank God because he is my guide and protector," Raine said.

Mighty Crown happy with 25th anniversary year

Popular international sound system Mighty Crown had had new collaborations, business launches, music, big events and sound clash victory while celebrating their high profile 25th anniversary this year.

The December 23 release of a special sneaker with sports apparel company Le Coq Sportif and Tokyo-based footwear favourite mita sneakers helps commemorate the sound's landmark anniversary. Emblazoned with the patriotic blue, white and red of the French tricolor on the predominately black leather upper, reggae-centric Japanese sound gurus Mighty Crown and mita put their touches on the limited edition sneaker with bold leopard spots and zebra stripes. It pays homage to the sound system through placement of the Mighty Crown 25th Anniversary logo on the insoles. While the sneaker will appear mostly in Japan retail outlets, international orders can be placed online.

On December 13 the 2 WAY Ruck Sack, a funky bag from Mighty Crown and Porter was released. Members of Mighty Crown donning the 2 WAY Ruck Sack bag in the commercial contributed to the appeal. Also in honour of Mighty Crown's 25th anniversary, the handcrafted bag consists of outer fabric denim and there is red nylon for inner fabric.

The sound was responsible for Chronixx's first trip to Japan, which resulted in a sold-out mini-tour. Subsequently, the sound staged the massive Mighty Crown 25th Anniversary/20th Reggae Sai Anniversary concert in Yokohama in the summer. Attracting thousands of fans, the event featured Japanese reggae acts and very special guest Beenie Man. Then 'The Far East Rulaz' sunk all competition (including Tony Matterhorn, Fire Links and King Turbo) by winning the Sound Clash at Sea aboard the 2016 Welcome to Jamrock Reggae Cruise. The powerhouse sound capped off its anniversary celebrations with the Champions in Action concert this month.

Mighty Crown also opened the Under Influence store in Japan, which is stocked with their Nine Rulaz and Irie Life clothing brands, music, memorabilia and other special Mighty Crown releases.
