Ashe to have busy summer
The Ashe Company is gearing up for another busy summer. The performing arts group kick started its season of activities on Saturday with the official launch of its summer production, Rumpelstiltskin: The Musical.
For the first time ever, the performing arts group will be retelling the classic fairy tale of Rumpelstiltskin. Creative director of The Ashe Company, Michael Holgate, said Rumpelstiltskin was chosen because he believes there are many lessons to be learned from the story. “ASHE has always been focused on fostering the creative talent of children and young people,” he said. “The story of Rumpelstiltskin has many lessons that the children will learn from as they delve into the story. These same lessons will be imparted to the audience during the staging of the musical.”
The summer production will have a cast primarily made up of children, a decision Holgate explained was strategic in fostering growth and development in the performing arts. “I believe having children as the cast members for a production such as this is very important in maintaining and promoting the growth of the performing arts in Jamaica.”
Training for Rumpelstiltskin: The Children’s Musical will begin on July 3. Parents who are interested in having their children participate in the production are being asked to contact the Ashe Company at 960-2985 to register. The production will run from July 27 to 29, 2017 starting at 7 pm nightly at The Vibes Theatre located at The Ashe Company, 8 Cargill Avenue, Kingston 10.
