Rita Marley essay competition winners to be revealed on Friday
The winner of this year’s annual Rita Marley Foundation essay competition will be announced on Friday.
Students from several high schools across the island were this year challenged with writing pieces based on a portion from, Love Iyah, one of Rita Marley’s songs.
Students were asked to tackle the message sent through the lyrics: 'They will try to buy your souls with money, bribing with milk and honey, distorting the youths in their minds, doping the wool they pull over their eyes. Jah call on the youth cause they're strong, don't give your strength in vain now'.
The participants were asked to present their ideas in compositions of no more than 1,000 words. The final drafts of the essays were submitted on June 1 and have been going through a rigorous judging process since.
The top three winners will be selected with the first-place writer receiving cash among other prizes. The winning essay will be published in the Harambe newsletter. This is the competition’s fourth anniversary .
