St Catherine-based sound system Unique Supermix is celebrating 17 years in the entertainment industry and continues to please many. The sound, which is located a Red Pond District outside of Spanish Town, has become a household name.

Senior selector, Dermaine Muir, said he started out with the sound system and watched it grow.

Dane Richards has also grown with the sound, which plays continuously at parties around the Old Capital and in places as far as Discovery Bay in St Ann at Reggae Fever.

The Sound is run by Unique Supermix Productions at 12 Frazier Boulevard, St Catherine.

According to proprietor Donovan Carter, the sound system has grown and matured in the industry since it started.

"I can remember creating the name, 'Unique Supermix', while I was promoting a session in Clarendon, I was reasoning with a brethren who encouraged me to have my own music system," Carter said.

Carter says it took some time before the sound started to gather traction as "it was challenging and remains that way. But as you grow, it becomes clearer how to survive the competition".

Carter says he hopes to take Unique Supermix to a level where they can start recording music for artistes andalso help to hone the craft of others desirous of contributing to the entertainment industry.
