New year in Poland for Omi
Singer Omi, whose breakout single Cheerleader put him on stages worldwide, has not performed in Jamaica for some time.
However, Clifton 'Specialist' Dillon of Oufa Media, Omi's production and management team, told The Gleaner that he and Omi were in Poland for the 2018 welcome celebrations, where the ball was dropped as it is in other locations, notably Times Square, New York City.
Dillon also said a new album will be released by Omi this year, although he did not commit to a date, saying that the recording is done but they are still open to new songs.
"The album is complete, but we are still tweaking songs, fine-tuning," Dillon said.
Explaining Omi's absence from Jamaica, he attributed it largely to the nature of how he came to prominence with Cheerleader. "When Omi broke, I had so many persons from all over the place - Latin America, Europe - asking for press on him, They are still asking," Dillon said.
He described the upcoming Omi album as "the best of both worlds" in terms of its overall sound, a blend of pop and dancehall music.
And for Omi's Poland New Year's Eve 2017 performance, which Dillon attended, he was a bit ahead of Jamaica welcoming 2018, Dillon chuckling as he pointed out the six-hour time difference.
