More rural applicants sign up for Miss Jamaica World
Miss Jamaica World kicks into high gear on Sunday with the private selection of finalists for the 2019 pageant. National Director Weston Haughton says there are even more applicants this year than there were for the 2018 pageant
“Applications opened in April via our website and we have had a steady flow of inquiries since then. We have not only seen an increase in the number of applicants, we have seen more submissions from rural Jamaica.”
Haughton says this may be a result of the success of the reigning queen Kadijah Robsinson, who is from St Elizabeth. Robinson, a physiotherapist at the Black River Hospital, finished in the top five of the Miss World competition held in Sanya, China, and was also crowned Miss World Caribbean.
Following Sunday’s elimination, selected finalists will be sashed and presented to the public on Sunday, July 28, at the Talk of the Town, The Jamaica Pegasus hotel. The ladies will head straight into training before competing in the beauty With a purpose, talent, fitness, top model and beach beauty fast-track events.
The Interlinc People’s Choice Competition returns this year, giving the wider public an opportunity to vote for their favourite contestant. Voting is accessed through the official Miss Jamaica World website, missjamaicaworld.com. Votes are limited to 15 per IP address daily.
The Miss Jamaica World 2019 Grand Coronation spectacular will take place on September 21, 2019, at the ballroom of The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, the official home of Miss Jamaica World.
