The Gleaner’s 185th Anniversary Road Show rolls into Kingston Friday
On September 13, 2019, The Gleaner celebrates 185 years of dedicated service to Jamaica and, by extension, the diaspora. Although time passes (in this case, 185 years), our brand remains strong, dependable and consistent.
To kick-start the celebrations, The Gleaner Company (Media) Ltd hosted a number of lead-up events, including an internal 185 Logo Design Competition, Staff Quiz Competition and an external Photo Scavenger Hunt sponsored by Gustazos. The Gleaner team also visited the Cecil Charlton Park in Mandeville last Saturday, the first stop in The Gleaner’s 185th Anniversary Road Show, followed by an anniversary church service last Sunday at St George’s Anglican Church in Kingston.
Celebration of success
The Gleaner will continue to celebrate its success with the 185th Anniversary Road Show, which will roll into Kingston on Friday, at The St William Grant Park, downtown Kingston, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. To start the fanfare, The Gleaner’s team and The Eastern Rangers Marching Band will march from The Gleaner’s head office on North Street to the St William Grant Park at 10:30 a.m.
The event promises to be an exciting affair of food, fun and entertainment, featuring performances by the 2019 Rising Stars top three finalists; the first- and third-place winners of the 2019 JCDC Festival Song Competition – Raldene Dyer and Jay Smith – along with dancing, prizes and lots of giveaways.
The early-morning segment of the road show will feature music by DJ Whizkid, while the afternoon segment will feature outside broadcasts on Hitz 92 FM with Jenny Jenny and on Power 106 FM with Dervan Malcolm. Readers can also look out for a special anniversary supplement and front-page wrap of The Gleaner tomorrow.
Sponsors of The Gleaner’s 185th Anniversary Road Show include Red Stripe, National, Zon Teasan and GraceKennedy Money Services.
