Inner Circle attends ‘Bad Boys’ Miami premiere
Directors of the film, Bad Boys for Life, made good on their promise to have Jamaican reggae group, Inner Circle, be part of one of their US movie premieres. Members of the band were present at Sunday’s blue-carpet affair held at the Regal South Beach Theater in Miami, Florida. They rubbed shoulders with the likes of Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, DJ Khaled, and film directors Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi.
Although their hit song, Bad Boys, has been the movie’s theme song since the first film was released in 1995, this was the band’s first time at one of the premieres.
“I been to movie premieres just to be there, you know, but this was my first time being active,” he said. “Standing up and doing photo ops, seeing people rushing to get to you, I’m still kind of taken aback by it all. I can see why some people get stupid when they get famous. That kind of fanfare will make anybody say, ‘Is this really happening?’ If you live those moments and you let them get to you , you’re gonna lose sight of who you are,” Ian Lewis of the band shared with The Gleaner.
Lewis described the reaction to them at the premiere as exceptional. He said that it was testament to the magnitude of the their song, Bad Boys, which even earned them the title Bad Boys of Reggae. He expressed that even after three decades, the song remained one of the biggest reggae cross-overs in history and was still making an impact.
“Here is a song that has spanned not only the Bad Boys movie, but one that has lasted a period of 30 years. Not only were the people on screen singing the song, but the entire movie theatre was singing the song. It was everything,” he said.
“Imagine sitting in the crowd and looking at the people wondering if they know that we are in here in the place, and then DJ Khaled announced us, and they cheered. When I heard that, I turned to a friend and I said, ‘Yuh see how long a song can live?’ I felt very rewarded inside to know that the song that the band has done can live this long. For us to experience this at this time in our career is really mind-boggling,” Lewis declared.
