Starlord’s ‘Alone’ features UK’s hottest DJ Zed Bias
Using a unique blend of Jamaican and United Kingdom influences, up-and-coming dancehall artiste Starlord has released a new track titled Alone. The track features UK DJ Zed Bias.
The 19-year-old, whose real name is Kern Bailey, has been making some inroads into the dancehall genre. Originally from Kingston, Jamaica, the enterprising young man is also the founder of the Majesty Cross Clothing Brand.
Alone was written and produced by Zed Bias, with the lyrics being written and performed by Starlord. His sound is not that of your typical dancehall artiste. Boasting a deep voice that blends well with the beat, his use of a ‘yardie’ accent acts as an effective addition to the single.
The track, which traverses the matters of the heart, explores the artiste’s feelings of dealing with the loss of his significant other. “ Me thought you would a dey deh till the end/ Me think you woulda deh- deh till me old and grey and dead,” he sings in one line.
As the song goes on, he describes the decline of the relationship: showing up late for their rendezvous and a decrease in the replies to social media messages. It is an issue that many young people have experienced once they enter the dating world.
Slow enough to appeal to the international market with clear storytelling lyrics, Alone is not only catchy, it has an old school dancehall feel as well.
Starlord stitches the lyrics together in such a way that he is able to keep listeners interested in the song for the duration of the track.
“What me used to get one time/you a reach late/me and you use to on time/you a see me text them when you online/ shoulda know you stay from long time,” he adds as he describes his mental anguish and the fact that he no longer believes in love after being hurt so badly.
The song’s content puts Starlord in the running as an artiste who could get major airplay in years to come.
