Where the unconventional meets high
fashion best describes First Global Bank (FGB) MoDa Grant Unconventional Challenge in collaboration with The Gleaner held last Wednesday.
The 15 talented designers were cut to five. Designers were asked to use unconventional materials, which included The Gleaner to make a garment. They were judged on creativity, the use of unconventional material, tailoring and how well they infused The Gleaner in their looks. The designers will showcase their outfits at a runway show November 21.
The winner will receive $250,000 from FGB, two Singer sewing machines, one-year mentorship from the Branson Center of Entrepreneurship and Business Development and support for 12 months from Jamaica Business Development Corporation.
The top-five designers are Jami Lake, Jami Spence, Kristol Jackson, Kaydeen Dyrumple and Nicole Bryan.
