A step back in time
Jason and I had a scheduled lunch date twice a week. It was our way of staying connected because we both had a lot going on. I was preparing for exams and he was expanding his business.
We talked every day at the crack of dawn, and his was the last voice I heard before I went to bed at nights. I was very nervous about my impending exams - sometimes I wondered if I had bitten off more than I could chew.
Between my job, kids and housework, I could hardly find time to sleep. I was tired and operating on 31/2 hours of sleep daily. Jason knew how important my studies were, so when he asked me out for the weekend I was shocked. I could definitely do with a night out, but a whole weekend. I didn't have time for that. He said he wanted me to relax, and I could take my textbooks as he would be monitoring me and my studying.
Weekend Mock Exam
We headed into Portland early Saturday morning, and I kept thinking I should be home studying - not taking a weekend away. I had brought my books, but I didn't see how I was going to fit studying into this trip. We stopped in Ocho Rios for breakfast, and that's when I realised he was
serious about monitoring my studying. He took my textbook and started to quiz me while we waited on the meal. He was already familiar with my
studies because it was something he had studied. I was quite appreciative of the fact that he was taking an
interest in my studies.
We checked into the Great Huts Resorts in Port Antonio, and when he said that we would be travelling back in time, I had no idea what he meant. Great Huts were as the name suggests - a resort of huts. All the rooms looked just like they did back in the days of the Tainos. The only difference would be the fixtures on the inside. Inside our hut was our bathroom on the first floor, which included a Jacuzzi, and the bedroom was upstairs. I was truly blown away by the resort because everything seemed so authentic and I felt like I did in fact step back in time.
After checking in, we decided to head down to the beach before it got dark. It was a little walk down, but the view was amazing, and all I could see were blue water and skies. I started to relax and was quite happy that I had decided to come on this trip after all.
I always had fun with Jason. He is one of those men that will try to surpass your expectations and is always trying to outdo the last date that you have. After leaving the beach, we got ready for dinner. That night they would be having a culture show after dinner, and we didn't want to miss that.
Just before dinner I got a call from my classmate/study partner, but instead of answering I opted to send a quick text letting her know I would call her later. I didn't want her to know that while she was studying, I was busy travelling 'back in time'.
As I entered the dining area, there stood my classmate and her husband grinning from ear to ear. As it turns out, Jason had invited her and her husband along for the trip and paid for their accommodation. He had told her that he knew how important my studies were, and he didn't want me to feel guilty. He had made plans for himself and my classmate's husband for the next day, and we would be staying back at the resort to study.
I was literally on cloud nine when I heard all this. I had never had anyone take such an interest in my well being in the longest time and I had to tell him how appreciative I was that he had done all this. We had dinner, and while the men went off to the bar, we stayed behind for the show. I already knew that he was a great guy, and if he continued to be so thoughtful, he could really make this girl fall in love with him. That in itself was a scary thought for me because I hadn't felt anything for anyone in so long. At least nothing compared to how I was feeling right now, but I wasn't going to get ahead of myself. I was going to take it all one day at a time.
