If at first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and try again. That is what Kegan Miller did when it came to winning the heart of his lady love, Sasha Nelson. It is this persistence that led to their happily-ever-after union.

The two met when they attended a New Year's Day birthday party in 2012 in Brook Valley, St Andrew. Kegan immediately took notice of Sasha, but she was not amused by his approach. "A former schoolmate who lived in the area and I were walking towards the party when two men in uniform, one short and the other tall, were trying to get my attention. I went over reluctantly, trying not to be rude. Once I was there, the tall one started a conversation. I don't remember the content of conversation, because I really wasn't interested."

Asking for her number, Kegan got a resounding no. But he was relentless in his pursuit, so she made the ordeal as difficult as possible. "After several nos, I said to him 'I will give you, but you can't write it down, you have to remember it'. I recited it so fast, it was akin to gibberish. Then I went along my merry way with my friend."

Nelson continued, "A few hours passed and suddenly, I saw the same tall man in plain clothes, offering to buy me drinks, which I willingly took for my friends and I. The next evening I saw a strange number calling and when I answered, to my surprise, it was him. He caught my number! During the conversation, I found out that we both were taken, so pursuing each other was an absolute no-no."

As the months went by, Miller and Nelson were put in the friend zone. It wasn't until June of that year that things started to change.

She was going through a rough patch single and Miller was right by her side, offering words of encouragement and comfort, and assuring her that everything will be alright. As fate would have it, a door closed, but a window opened. Her feelings for him developed and he become her tower of strength. "By August of 2012, I finally found the courage to ask him to be my boyfriend. His response was he thought we were already in a relationship," Sasha told Flair.

From that moment, it was full speed ahead for the new couple. He introduced her to his mother in September, and by November, she had a little bun in the oven. "While I was pregnant, I could not have asked for a better man. He cared for me when I was sick, and was at every clinic visit. He definitely earned the 'Best Father Award'." Nine months later, Nelson gave birth to their baby boy Keshaun on August 3, 2013, the day after her birthday.

Planned Proposal

In December 2013, they discussed the prospects of getting married and the planning began. "In May 2014, I didn't get the epic surprise of being engaged. I chose the rings and we picked them up and went home. Two days after that he took out the engagement ring and got down on his knees and proposed. I was not expecting it because he a man of very few words."

The couple planned their own wedding, enlisting the aid of close family and friends to make her bridal dreams a reality. "I was assisted by fellow swan Kadian Powell to get my dream dress from Exquisite Events, and my nails for the day were done by another swan Alicia Beckett. So I guess you can say St Hugh's friends were there for me from day one when I met the man of my dreams to pitching in to make him my husband," she remarked with a laugh.

Wedding Day

Showers of blessings rained down on November 15, as Nelson and Miller tied the knot at Miracle Tabernacle New Testament Church of God. A sea of radiant red and gold made vibrant waves down the aisle. They were followed by the beautiful bride in a vision of white splashed with colour.

The exchanging of vows, wedding rings and the candle ceremony were truly awe-inspiring. Supporters and well-wishers were present at the reception on Sandhurst Crescent. The Miller's night to remember included many sentimental toasts and fun games After the cutting of the cake, the couple had their first dance to From this Moment. They tossed the bouquet and garter, ending the night as husband and wife.
