The eyes are the windows to the soul and when it comes to make up we want to ensure that we get it right. So for the New Year while taking a fresh look on your life take it with well made up eyes.

We at Flair solicited the expertise of Make-Up Artist Tonij Phillips on the best ways to apply eyeliners for your eye size. Eyeliners are usually used to give the illusion of longer eyes and plays with the natural size of your eyes.

Small eyes

Small or narrow eyes close when smiling. Eyeliner should be applied to the upper eyelids; the darkest and thickest section should be on the outside corners of the eyes. When it comes to the lower eyelid only apply to the outer corner. This gives the illusion on a naturally larger eye. Black eyeliner is preferred.

When it comes to doing a cat eye you can go all out on the thickness of it.

Medium sized eyes

These eyes narrow to half way closed when smiling. Eyeliners can be applied to both upper and lower lids from inner to outer corners on the top eyelid however, ending halfway on the lower.

One has more room to play with the cat eye when you have medium sized eyes, you can choose to go thin or thick, thus experiencing the best of both worlds.

Wide eyes

These eyes remain opened at all times. Eyeliner can be applies to both inner and outer eyelids from inner to outer corners. However, when applying eyeliners for wide eyed beauties you should avoid black since it will widen the appearance of your eyes, coloured eyeliners are recommended. If you are not a coloured liner kind of girl you can apply your eye shadow and only apply liners to the lower eyelids only.

When it comes to cat eyes less is more. Keep it thin.

Something extra

There are three kinds of eyeliners liquid, gel and pencil which include the retractable and sharpened pencil. While you can use any of the three irrespective of the shape of your eye, if you are new to applying make-up start with a sharpened pencil. You can then move from that to the retractable and then the gel. Liquid make up is best used by someone that is versed in applying make-up and steady hand since it is very easy to smudge.

Happy New Year and hope you are happy with your brand new eyes.
