WESTERN BUREAU:

It has been described as a match made in heaven by friends and well-

wishers. After two years of courtship, on Saturday,

January 31, Kerian Nepaul and Hasani Haughton tied the knot at the Cornwall College Chapel, Orange Street, Montego Bay, St James.

The couple met at a mutual friend's birthday party. Haughton told Flair, "Kerian and her best friend, Sasha Rochester, were the ones sharing the cake, and she caught my attention so I decided I wanted to get to know her. I went over and started speaking to her. She slowly warmed up and at the end of the night when I asked her for her number, she gave me her BlackBerry pin saying that she wasn't ready to give me her telephone number."

He explained that, from the very beginning, it was obvious that they had a special connection. He saw her only twice after they met, and two weeks later he caught the flu, which took a toll on him. To his surprise, Nepaul took the initiative and prepared a meal that would last him a few days, and brought it to his house with orange juice, Panadol and vitamin C.

After his recovery, they began meeting regularly at Devon House for romantic ice-cream treats and dinner at Saffron and M10.

Before long, the couple knew that they were meant to be.

Proposal

Hasani explained, "I had planned Kerian's engagement on two occasions and she found out before I actually executed it, and the element of surprise was lost. From these discoveries, she knew of my plans to marry her, so I told her we would forgo the engagement since she already knew and to start planning the wedding for January 31.

However, the day after he graduated from law school (September 2014) gave him the perfect opportunity

to officially pop the question. They went to celebrate his achievement, and after dinner they drove to a quiet area and he told her that they could not longer be boyfriend and girlfriend.

Surprised she asked why not. His response, "Because I want you to be my wife, will you marry me?" Her response was a resounding yes!!

The Wedding

On the sunny afternoon of January 31, Kerian was a vision of beauty clad in an ivory satin ball gown with a chapel train and detailed champagne embroidery from David's bridal. She glided down the aisle, on the arm of her father, Trevor, to meet her groom.

The Reverend Davewin C. Thomas, Pastor of the Burchell Baptist Church, was the officiating minister.

The wedding had some special features. The first was the one-cup ceremony which saw the bride and groom consuming wine separately and then together, followed by the exchange of vows and rings, signalising the blending of both families.

The dÈcor reflected the couples favourite colours - green and blue. A.J. Brown serenaded the couple during the signing of the register with the popular ballad For You, which set the stage for the Sindoor ceremony.

"The husband's application of the Sindoor powder on the forehead of his wife is a deeply rooted Indian tradition that is only performed at a wedding ceremony. This is a symbol of eternal, everlasting married life, fertility and happiness to the couple and represents the change of status for the woman from bride to wife," explained Geneive Brown, the bride's aunt who presided over the ceremony.

The reception followed at the Grandiosa Resort, before the couple jetted off to their honeymoon.
