JMMB supports work-life balance among team members
Balancing your career while playing the role of mom or dad can be challenging. Added to that daily routine is the job of being: football coach, doctor, cheerleader, teacher and counsellor.
For many working parents, creating a healthy work-life balance can be a mammoth task. In addition, a major concern for most parents is the assurance of a secure and a happy environment for their children while they are at work. For Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB) team members the nursery and after-school care facility, is a haven for them and their children.
The recently renovated nursery and after-school care facility, which has been in operation since 1996, was renovated in January 2015. With a growing team, there was a need for increased space to better accommodate the children, hence the creation of the new state-of-the-art space.
Developmental activities are not confined to the walls of the nursery. During select periods, the more than 60 children - three months to 17 years old - housed at the nursery are also taken off-site to engage in tours and field trips at places of interest.
Having such a facility greatly improves productivity as working parents are able to have peace of mind and also a haven for their children.
The nursery is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. And so parents can easily balance times when they need to get to the office early or work late.
The proximity also allows parents to take their children to appointments and do pick up without a major loss of productive time.
Felecia Williams, JMMB team member and mother of three-year-old twins, Jordanian and Noah, is grateful for the nursery as she highlights: "It makes a big difference for me, because I can easily take a moment to check in on my children and, in the event of an emergency, I am close by. In addition, I can whisk them to the doctor when they have an appointment, without losing too much work time. This convenience is great and I know my children are in good hands, which gives me a sense of completion as a parent."
The nursery team consists of a trained learning and development coordinator, who is ably supported by the loving and ever-patient hands of several caregivers, who ensure that the children are fed, kept clean, engaged in diverse activities, taught through play and assisted with homework.
With an islandwide branch network, JMMB ensures its team has access to a similar benefit by providing a subsidy for team members who are not able to take advantage of the nursery that is located at the head office.
In addition to the nursery and after-school care facility, Batson noted that JMMB provides other avenues to promote work-life balance among team members. She highlighted: "The gym is a great way for team members to remain healthy, coupled with a running club led by the gym instructor." Seminars and workshops are also held periodically, addressing a range of topics related to parenting, relationships, career development and wellness. Free counselling services are also available to team members through Family Life Ministries to cater to the team's mental wellness.
