Sanneta eyes Sanya to showcase the indomitable Jamaican spirit
Travelling 8,701 miles from Kingston, Jamaica, will be well worth the journey for Miss Jamaica World 2015, Sanneta Myrie, who is ready to showcase her island's spirit when she enters the tropical gateway to China, Hainan Island's gem - Sanya.
The Beauty Crown Grand Theatre will once again open its doors on December 19 to more than 100 of the world's most beautiful women who will vie for the crown, and make their contribution to the heart of the competition - Beauty with a Purpose.
The Beauty Crown Grand Theatre, one of the world's largest theatres for arts and entertainment, was specially built for Miss World in 2003. It has since crowned five Miss Worlds, and is nothing short of stunning architectural artistry, showcasing the treasures of the Orient. With its unique and elegant crown shape, Sanneta will not lack inspiration in her rise towards the coveted Miss World crown.
Hainan Island, located on the south coast of China, is also home to the world-renowned Beauty Crown Sanya China hotel resort. Reflective of the inner beauty of the contestants, the Beauty Crown Hotel Complex hosts landmark buildings forming a bloc of nine astonishingly beautiful 'holy trees' in a likeness of gigantic trees complete with roots, branches and hanging fruit.
Indeed, a gateway to a tropical paradise, Sanneta who leaves the island tomorrow, is enthralled by the promising gateway to adventure and to the indigenous culture that is characteristic of islands. She also hopes to share her culture from the biggest little dot in the world, showcasing the "likkle but tallawah" Jamaican island spirit.
"Our eclectic culture is one of the most popular across the globe. More than anything, I am looking forward to being an agent of that spirit and culture, representing it with my whole heart," states Myrie.
Jamaica has indeed made its mark on the global landscape with icons such as reggae legend Bob Marley; national hero and political activist Marcus Garvey; the fastest man alive, Usain Bolt; writer Claude McKay; and microbiologist Professor Louis Grant, just to name a few. There is much to be said about the little island which has also crowned three Miss Worlds - Carole Joan Crawford (1963), Cindy Breakespeare (1976) and Lisa Hanna (1993).
With the overwhelming support from her island home, Sanneta is excited for her upcoming participation.
"I am excited, yet humbled at the opportunity to represent my island nation at this prestigious event. Most of all, I am thankful for the continued support from Jamaicans here and abroad."
The 65th annual Miss World competition will be an alluring union where beauty meets humanitarianism, art, soul, spirit and culture in the gem of China. The continued partnership of the Miss World Organisation and the Beauty Crown Hotel Complex will undoubtedly lead to a once-in-a-lifetime experience when the reigning Miss World Rolene Strauss crowns Sanya's sixth Miss World. With the support of Jamaica and a lot of heart, we hope to crown our fourth queen, Miss Jamaica World Dr Sanneta Myrie.
