Nothing small about microblading

Microblading is the new cosmetic phenomenon that has cut down women's morning prep time since they can eliminate sketching in those perfect brows.

Jahrene Wilson from Glam by JW, who has been formally trained in the procedure, describes microblading as a semi-permanent tattoo that appears as 3-D hair strokes.

"This is a new and improved form of tattoo artistry, where pigment is implanted in the first layer of the skin with a manual handheld tool instead of a machine, which has a cleaner finish. Hair-like strokes do not go as deep as traditional permanent cosmetic procedures, creating very fine brow-like hairs, making this procedure the most natural procedure you can get to achieve your desired eyebrows," she said.

Before the actual microblading, the eyebrows are threaded to get a clean, defined shape. A topical numbing cream is then applied to the area to minimise discomfort. The client's desired shape is drawn and tweaked to achieve a suitable shape for the client's face. The microblading pen is then used to draw individual strokes that mimic the appearance of hairs.

After the procedure, the eyebrows last for approximately a year, so you do not have to worry about a lifetime commitment with microblading. You have the option to reapply it.

Wilson, who was trained in London last year, noted that the process was not a painful one due to the numbing process done before. This can take between 30 minutes to an hour-based on the customer's threshold of comfort.

The process takes approximately one to two hours, depending on the numbing process. The actual microblading takes 30 minutes.
