Last week, athletes traded in their sporting gear for classy tuxedos, and it was a sight to behold as they walked the red carpet accompanied by their beautiful belles of the ball. The night saw Kobe Bryant stepping back into the spotlight after recently retiring, when he was honoured with this year's the Icon Award. The basketball star delivered a moving acceptance speech, which had fans loving him even more. Cleveland Cavaliers' Lebron James was the recipient of the Athlete of the Year award, addressing the recent gun violence in his acceptance.

three-year-old murder case
In local news, a suspect in the murder of three-year-old Nevalisia Campbell was arrested last week. He was identified as Alexus Newland, the family's neighbour. It was alleged that the mother of the child, Mahalia Poyser, who is also a twin, left her children at home unsupervised to attend a party. She went home to discover her daughter missing, and after a search in community located in St Abb, her body was discovered bearing marks of chop wounds. Outraged followed in the parish and the wider community of Jamaica from many who heard of the tragic incident. Both her and the stepfather, Roy Dawes, have since been charged with breaching the Child Care and Protection Act. Many hope that justice will be served for the life a promising star. #herlifemattered
