When French Gymnast Samir Ait did the vault this week, no one expected his horrific accident. But the snap of his leg had everyone on social media cringing and feeling his pain. It sucks that he missed his mark and was incapable of medalling, but that's the nature of the sport - injuries happen.
Alia's eighth place
When Alia Atkinson finished eighth in the 100 metre breaststroke finals this week, everyone felt her defeat as if it were their own. Everyone expected her to medal, maybe even win. Since then, the bandwaggonists have reared their ugly heads, dwelling on the fact that she finished dead last, while supporters have come to her defence, stating win or lose, Alia will forever be their girl. No matter the side, you can't deny that she is good at the sport and did her best to represent Jamaica at the highest level. Chin up, Alia.
The fastest man alive, Usain Bolt seems to be getting a lot of love off the track as he prepares to collect the gold. The video of a Norwegian reporter rapping his praises for the fastest man in the world during the press conference last week went viral! Then the footage of the closing samba dance at the press conference saw Bolt joining in and snapping as they showed him some Brazilian love. And how could we forget American gymnast Aly Raisman getting star-struck when she saw him in the Olympic Village, saying she almost flipped over a table to get to him, after which she thanked him for meeting her team. What a prelude to the greatness that is to come!
