Wax on, wax off
Wax on and wax off isn't only used for teaching discipline by the late great Mr Miyagi. It is actually a technique practised on women to remove unsightly or uncomfortable body hair. Many swear by it, saying it has been a godsend for their treasure, while others resort to the traditional shaving, out of sheer fear that they will not be able to survive the excruciating pain that comes with the process. But you know what they say, right? No pain, no gain! So let's hear from the expert on the reasons and benefits of waxing, and find out a few of the popular waxing done on the fairer sex.
According to aesthetician Danielle Ridgeway of Seventh Heaven Day Spa, the reasons why women decide to wax vary from woman to woman. "Excessive hair growth can be tedious by shaving which is a quicker method as well as less painful as some may put it, but it isn't necessarily the best option." She explained further to Flair that there are different types of wax, from those for sensitive skin to normal skin type, hard wax to soft wax. "Hard wax is the non-usage of a
Muslin/calico strips, whereas the soft wax you must use the strips," she added.
The benefits, she says, are phenomenal. Waxing gives a cleaner look that is smooth to touch, especially in those bikini areas that most women, black women especially, experience, resulting in fewer hair bumps. It also does not darken the area by friction as shaving would. "It's inexpensive compared to laser treatments, and most conveniently, the results last longer and the hairs grow back thinner and more manageable after a series of waxing!" So guess what? There's no razor slipping to cut the skin. Now, doesn't that sound wonderful?
The growth of hairs, she revealed, differs in each individual. "The hairs usually start to sparso - start to show on top of skin, the epidermis, about a week and a half to two weeks." Waxing, she says, is still is preferred as the most effective method of hair removal by most, even though it balances as the most feared procedure due to its quick pulling technique. Ridgeway assured us that it only lasts a few seconds and the end result is simply irresistible.
The popular waxing techniques include Brazilian and Bikini, but you can also target areas such as underarm, full leg, full arm, lower legs, buttocks, or do a facial wax.
