Short lines, long lines, thick lines and thin lines; all used uniquely by a creative who drives to various homes and leaves women and men feeling like they too, can be a part of a hot girl or hot boy summer.

You might have noticed that in recent times, women have been getting major haircuts, and if that wasn’t enough change, they proceeded to add a wide array of patterns each time they go to have their look ‘spruced up’. Some call it edgy and daring and others, well, they simply associate it with people who don’t have strait-laced jobs. However, according to expert barber, Shawn Powis, who has been changing the lives of women from every walk of life for the past nine years, corporate girls have definitely been riding this wave, too.

“It’s all in the haircut that they choose. Corporate women would mostly get an undercut or even a side cut. They wear their hair down Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., after which, they pin it up to expose the cut and transform into a sultry goddess,” he said.

The Process

“They just call me and I pull up,” Powis said while laughing. “After that, it’s pretty spontaneous. I ask them which cut they’d prefer, show them samples and then they choose. In terms of design, that’s all me. My clients give me the freedom to do whatever I think is best and fitting.”

When asked why he thinks this look is currently trending, Powis spoke to the fact that women love attention, and a haircut gives exactly that, along with the fact that women enjoy switching up their look with little to no effort.

So what inspires the designs? His keen eye for personality. “It doesn’t take long to figure out the basis of someone’s personality, and the truth is, once you call me, you’re ready to step outside the box. I never give too much or too little,” said the 35-year-old.

Review

Flair had the chance to speak with Tonisha Kong (@tonishakong) who has been shaving her head with Powis since January 2019. “I tend to make drastic changes with my hair when I’m going through a really stressful time and I feel the need to make a statement to myself. I really thought that I would miss my hair but I don’t. I get a new style every two weeks so it never gets old. I trust Shawn as a creative barber to just have fun and I, in turn, enjoy scores of compliments,” she said.
