Wine for RW
It's that time of year again when restaurants all across Jamaica join in the ultimate celebration of wine and food for Restaurant Week (RW). For various restaurants, there are amazing deals on wine which are intended to complement the various delicacies being offered. Each grade restaurant will have a different range of wines available but at a great price point.
This premium end category will feature wines from the Robert Mondavi Private Selection. The varietals available will be Pinot Noir, Merlot, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay. The Pinot Noir is a great starter to an evening of laughter. This Pinot Noir has a smell of strawberries and tastes of cherries. Yum yum. Think gamey type of meats with the one like lamb and that's a match worth enjoying. The Merlot has some very similar taste characteristics as the Pinot Noir but much more body and intensity which makes it my go-to, middle-of-the-road kind of wine, which is always the perfect pairing partner for all things meat. Ribs, steak, roasted chicken, you name it and this Merlot is versatile enough to thoroughly enjoy.
Pinot Grigios in general are light-bodied white wines, served cold and crisp. This one from Mondavi is no different. Think
of lemons and pears to the nose and to the taste which makes it perfect for sushi, crab cakes, chicken dishes, pasta and salads. The Chardonnay, on the other hand, is far more striking both in colour and taste. This beautiful, golden yellow is perfect with all things seafood whether shrimp or lobster or just a good ol' steam snapper. It works remarkably well with pork as well.
The wines for this category will be available at a special price of $700 per glass.
Savoury and Tasty Category
This category is intended to be fun casual dining with great value options, and with it is the line of Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi. Again another great line of wines from California made by the exceptional wine maker Robert Mondavi. For the lovely ladies, the Moscato, I'm sure, will grab your attention almost instantaneously. This Moscato is a little frizzante which means it has slight bubbles which makes for a great starter wine. Pairing-wise, think spicy foods, and you are in for a delightful treat or desserts.
The full range of varietals will be available: Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and White Zinfandels. I wont delve too much into all the varietlas but the big, bold Cabernet is worth mentioning, particularly if you are going with anything on a grill or barbecued. This is the ideal wine for that.
The wines in this category will be available at a special price of $450 per glass.
During this week, try a few new things and maybe during your dinning experience you may just catch me sipping a little vino and enjoying something decadent.
