Mobay’s Face Baar Tantalises Taste Buds!

WESTERN BUREAU:

There is no scarcity of places to dine in Montego Bay. In fact, the Second City is bursting with flavour, and the most recent addition to its long list of delectable restaurants is the Face Baar.

Located in the Golden Triangle Mall in Ironshore, Face Baar features an open kitchen, which allows diners to watch as their meals are being prepared by executive chef Luis Farid Lopez and his team.

The restaurant offers great international cuisine, and ingredients used to prepare the dishes are creatively tweaked by Lopez to add a bit of local zest.

"I flavour my dishes depending on the customer I am serving. I usually use less spices when cooking for Spanish-speaking diners as I know they prefer this, but when cooking for Jamaicans, I know that I must add more spice as Jamaicans love their food to be very flavourful," Lopez explained to Food.

GREAT AMBIANCE

Face Baar offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, with both indoor and outdoor dining options. Guests opting to dine indoors do so in air-conditioned comfort, with potted plants, designer artefacts and the soothing sound of motion music playing softly in the background, further complementing the attractive ambiance.

However, most interesting about Face Baar's chic interior decor is its walls, which are adorned with photographs depicting world leaders and other outstanding individuals, including the likes of Nelson Mandela, Bob Marley, Mother Teresa, Barack Obama, Shaggy, and Mahatma Gandhi.

"The idea of the Face Baar is that when you walk in here, you can identify faces of persons who have made an impact on the world stage and be reminded of their great courage," states Jackie Norman, marketing manager.

When Food recently visited the establishment, Lopez was in his element, preparing a variety of dishes for us to sample. First up was his signature rib-eye steak, served with sautÈed vegetables and baked potato, topped with sour cream. This dish was simply divine- flavourful with a lingering taste on the tongue.

Lopez pointed out that it was his bestseller and we unreservedly recommend it as a must-try.

We also sampled a shrimp linguini cooked with a vodka sauce and a grilled salmon cooked with dill butter sauce and served with wild rice and sautÈed vegetables. Much like the steak, this dish was equally delicious and firmly cement Lopez's entry on to Montego Bay's culinary landscape.

To complement its extensive menu which also include pork, chicken, lobster and vegetarian choices, Face Baar offers a wide list of sparkling and non-sparkling wines, along with other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

The restaurant comes with a double deck gazebo which facilitates outdoor dining, with a seating capacity for up to 200 persons.
