Detox with the greens
More than likely, you might have gained a couple pounds or might be in for a toxic overload, having consumed much fat, sugar, caffeine, alcohol and gluten over the holidays. Well it's time to rid the body of those toxic foods.

Great replacements for heavy and toxic foods are green smoothies. Nutritionist Sharon Feanny encourages the practice of yoga, as well as her detox programme which she conducts four times for the year. As part of the programme, there will be an the elimination of alcohol, gluten, wheat, fats, sugar and caffeine and incorporation of high-vitality foods.
know your greens
Mesclun mix is a mild blend of baby lettuces, tatsoi, kale, and mizuna which can all be used in green shakes.
Black mint is a lovely addition to smoothies - coconut water, pineapple and honey to sweeten.
Collard greens are closely related to kale but with a little bit less bitterness. It can also be used as a great garnish.
Tatsoi is technically a type of pak choi, but it's sweeter, milder and less stemmy than what's typically available on the island. It can be used in place of spinach sometimes, and cut finely, it adds a nice texture to salads.
Sharon Feanny's Green Power Shake
1 freshly cut coconut
1 papaya, 4 or 5 slices
3 stalks of pak choi
4 or 5 callaloo leaves
2 lettuce leaves
Medium-sized carrot cut in two
2 leaves celery (optional)
1 tsp cilantro power
1 tsp maringa powder
1 tsp vanilla
3 or 4 ice cubes
Pour freshly opened coconut water in blender. Add sliced papaya, pak choi, spinach, cucumber, callaloo, lettuce and carrot. Add ginger, cilantro, maringa, ice cubes, then blend until smooth (preferred blenders for smoothies are the Ninja and the Nutribullet brands). Serve.
Quick fix smoothie
Not sure when and if I would have all these ingredients at once, so I share my on-the-go delicious green smoothie recipe with Food.
Medium cucumber, diced
Handfull of lettuce
1 or 2 ripe banana
4 ice cubes
Add cucumber, lettuce, banana, sugar, pineapple, then ice cubes and blend to smooth.

Step 1: Have a glass of warm, freshly squeezed lemon/lime juice in water in the morning. Preferably warm water as it is easier for your body to process.
Lime and lemon contains citric acid that helps the body's enzymes to function, which in turn can stimulate the liver and help it to detox. This remedy can also boost and increase mental energy as it is filled with Vitamin C, which is a great antioxidant that helps to boost your immune system.
Step 2: Have a green shake for breakfast.
Step 3: Have a high-vitality lunch - include yam, banana, pumpkin, sweet potato, roast breadfruit, steamed bammy with fish or a vegetable wrap without of fats, sugar, wheat or gluten.
Step 4: Prepared a nice bowl of rich pumpkin or callaloo soup with all natural ingredients - accompanied with a raw vegetable salad.
Step 5: Have a cup of herbal tea before going to bed at 9 p.m.
