You can taste the tropics in every bite luscious lemon, glorious guava, decadent chocolate delight. These are just a few of the cupcakes available from Cupcakes by Pizzaz a sweet treat company founded by three teenagers from the Sunshine city Portmore.

Refreshingly zealous and talented, 19-year-old Zabrina Smith and her younger siblings - 17-year-old Zoe and 16-year-old Zachary - are the products of Junior Achievement Jamaica (JA).

Specialising in cupcake baking and decorating, these three work with a number of tropical cupcake flavours and decorating techniques, even making cupcake bouquets all while preparing for their CXC examinations.

Zabrina, who will be pursuing studies in culinary arts at the University of Technology come September, is ready to take on the restaurant world as a pastry chef and caterer.

However, these young entrepreneurs are not 'snoozing' on the opportunity to make their mark in the food industry after having been inspired by their parents and Junior Achievement Jamaica. Despite having to focus on CAPE and CSEC, the trio relishes the bliss of working together to manage and operate their company.

Zabrina, an upper sixth form student at St Hugh's High School, lauds her parents for having encouraged her and her siblings to become entrepreneurs, even though they are still in school.

"From we were younger, they always pushed us to be business-minded. Sometimes it's hard, but I always have help from my family. They are very supportive."

Mother of the baking triad, Claudette, told Food, "I am proud of my children. They are fantastic! The sky is the limit for them."

She gained the know-how to start her business with the help and support of JA Jamaica in February of 2015. As Jamaica's largest organisation dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through practical and experiential programs, JA Jamaica has provided the Smith siblings with assistance in registering their business.

JA Jamaica was also Pizzaz's first large-order customer just two weeks after its registration. Zabrina, Zoe and Zachary are now catering to corporate events and hope to supply cupcakes to schools, businesses and restaurants islandwide.
