January is Soup Month. It's that time of year when the air is chilly and everyone is recuperating from the holiday festivities all those fantastic holiday meals enjoyed in December.

Now is the perfect time to create and serve simple, delicious, hearty meals and none is as warming, filling and affordable as a bowl of soup.

Whether you are a busy mom on the go, or you are trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle a delicious bowl of soup is the perfect solution. Here are five reasons to celebrate Soup Month with Maggi.

1. It's quick and easy to prepare.

There are a variety of easy ways to use Maggi Soup mixes to prepare a filling meal for lunch or dinner. All you need to do is heat water, and add your favourite fresh vegetables and seasonings to your favourite soup mix.

2. Save money by having soup as a main meal.

It actually costs less time and money to prepare a filling meal with Maggi soup. A soup dish with fresh vegetables and meat will actually cost less to make than a meal of chicken and rice.

3. Variety is the spice of life and so is your soup.

Adding additional components such as peas and beans, herbs and spices and pasta to whichever soup mix you choose. And there are a variety of options to suit different dietary lifestyles. The versatility of soup allows one soup dish to fit into various diets, saving you having to cook separate meals.

4. Soup is the answer for busy people.

Running short on time? Soup allows parents to devote more time to their children and less on what's being served for dinner. Plus, the robust flavours mask daily servings of healthy veggies that little ones are less prone to eating when served separately.

5. Lose weight by eating soup

Eating soups allows you to feel full, therefore, you are less likely to overeat. The feeling of being full comes from the amount of volume in all of the yummy liquids in soup. The liquid or broth also contain less calories than most meals of separately prepared dishes. Plus, to limit late-night cooked meals as part of your weight management strategies, enjoying a bowl of soup will cut the craving for a high-calorie meal.

6. Preparing soup as a main dish makes it easy for you to incorporate more vegetables into your diet.

A bowl of soup can be more nutritious and filling while consuming less calories. Of course, cream-based soups will have more fat and higher calories.

Why have soup when you have a cold?

There does not seem to be any real medical reasons behind this, but certainly soup is easier to eat when you are not feeling so well and suffering the lethargy that comes with a cold or flu. Also, some suggest that if you have a cold, the warmth of the soup helps to clear congestion.

Also, the bones that are often used to make the broth that is the base of some soups contain lots of essential nutrients anti-inflammatory and gut-healing proteins, healthy fats and minerals.
