Spice up your taste buds with Pepperwood
Looking to spice up those taste buds of yours for lunch or dinner? Well, look no further. Pepperwood is here to satisfy.
We sat down and had a heart-to-heart with owner Jeremy McConnell about the new and improved changes. Formerly Scotchies, McConnell explained that he wouldn't accept the franchise arrangement proposed by Scotchies. "It just wasn't viable for us to go into that agreement," he shared.
So they decided to 'wheel and come again', starting anew with Pepperwood. Why the name Pepperwood? The process started with about 30 names from staff, family members and friends. It then boiled down to three, and in true Jamaican fashion, Pepperwood was chosen. "It also gives you an insight into what Jamaican jerk is all about, with the pepper," he added.
After being in one location for seven years, Pepperwood had to get the word out on their new name. McConnell then explained that there was now the need for utilising both traditional and social media.
"At one point, people thought we were closed down. And for some time, we were operating under New Kingston Jerk, because we couldn't use the name Scotchies, but our foodies have been very loyal and food service Cut Di Line have been doing a great job in spreading the word and delivering our food to eager customers."
Boasting the same breathtaking ambience, the same great authentic taste, they still cook over wood and still use the same wet and dry seasoning. They have, however, created a new, extended mouthwatering menu. "Apart from our jerked chicken and jerked pork that everyone knows and loves, we've added hamburgers, hotdogs, French fries, chicken and pork sausage, ribs, fish, chicken salad and a chicken wrap, to add culinary variety and facilitate children, health buffs and women living on the lighter side of life."
Opening hours are 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Sunday to Wednesday, and 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. from Thursday to Saturday. So make it a date, and celebrate with Pepperwood.
