Christina Simonitsch started as a hotelier but she always had a love affair with food. Almost a year ago, she felt that the time had finally come for her to take the plunge into her passion as a 'foodie' entrepreneur.

A bit of a perfectionist, she knew that the time would come when she would have to take her profession into her own hands and do things her way. Last year, with a leap of faith and gentle nudging from family and a good friend, she decided that it was time to take the plunge.

Simonitsch then started Simo's Bread and Catering in June 2016, and has not looked back since. Pastries and catering were the initial ideas and she brought something new to the table. While she does the traditional croissants and muffins, she also created perfect marriages like cronuts, which are a combination of croissants and doughnuts and cruffants. Your palates will be salivating to these mergers.

The creative juices did not stop with pastry as she also dabbles her fingers in condiments and a sweet-treat favourite. Simonitsch admitted that Scotch bonnet is one of her obsessions which led to one of her favourite creations - Scotch bonnet salt.

"I am obsessed with Scotch bonnet and wanted to use it in a unique way. What goes better with pepper than salt?" Simonitsch told Food.

One would think that this is an unusual combination but it has been a hit. It is one of her personal favourite products as well as her customers'.

Her love for Scotch bonnet pepper has also overflowed in her other creations as she also now creates the Scotch bonnet sauce and that flaming sweet treat that many have come to love - the Scotch bonnet pepper jelly. While these might be her favourite to indulge in, her favourite to make is her cronuts as she enjoys baking.

Among pastries and jarred products, she still manages to do catering for small dinners and cocktail parties as she is unable to give up her love for planning. She gets to fully immerse herself into her dreams.

As it pertains to the future of Simo's Bread and Catering, she has no plans written in stone. She loves it as a small business and enjoys doing all the work herself.
