Evita’s Jamaicanised Italian favourites
Evita's Italian restaurant has earned the enviable reputation of being the restaurant for stars to dine at, especially those from overseas.
During Restaurant Week, that reputation will be on show as Eva Myers and her team go the extra mile to ensure that patrons enjoy the best of food, service and ambience.
"Patrons can look forward to the usual beautiful ambience, friendly atmosphere, service and fantastic, good-tasting food," Myers told Food.
"It's gonna be food that is down to earth; and it's not like in the air and you say, 'Where is the meat?'" she joked. "It's just gonna be nice, hearty, good food and it's Italian, but with a Jamaican flair and geared to the Jamaican taste."
Thirty years of Evita's in Jamaica, the last 28 in Ocho Rios, has put Myers in a position to understand what her clients like and, according to her, she aims to please during Restaurant Week.
"We cook to please the people that come here and I keep tweaking my menu so I can give trendy food, healthy food. The trend is, people love seafood and a combination of seafood, they don't even want to make a decision.
"The thing that they love the best is lobster, so pasta with lobster and shrimp is gonna be on the menu. And people like the Alfredo sauce, but I'm going to Jamaicanise it, chicken Alfredo with a little jerk in it.
"Then there is the shrimp and chicken combination that is served as curry suprema, served with pasta.
"A vegetarian kale soup is on the menu, so, too, a delicious dessert that includes Eva's Tiramisu sauce and dark chocolate croissant pudding, served warm with ice cream, plus cheesecake."
