Fit 4 Life | Dare To Be Your Best Self

Published:Tuesday | September 5, 2017 | 12:00 AMMarvin Gordon

Summer is over.

Yup, another summer is done and you still don't have that summer body yet. What now? Do you continue the cycle? Do you give up? What if there is another way; a better way?

Let's get this out of the way first: Yes, it is possible.

Okay, so how do you do it? First you have to understand one thing: those summer bodies you aspire to aren't made in - or just before - summer. They are the result of living a healthy lifestyle year-round. So it's about more than looking good. It's about taking care of you so you can be your best self.

The benefits are endless. A healthy lifestyle improves not just looks, but confidence as well as mental and physical health. Those last two aren't benefits we - both as individuals and as a nation - can do without, given the prevalence of non-communicable diseases and the massive impact these have on our families and our economy as a whole.

A healthy lifestyle could mean the difference between living a long, active life and spending massive amounts of money to ease suffering brought on by conditions such as heart disease, diabetes or some cancers. It can be difficult, however, to get the right information and advice to help you along your journey to health.

The Gleaner has a remedy for that in our new Fit 4 Life weekly feature. Fit 4 Life was designed to arm you with all the information you need to take your well-being into your own hands. Each weekly dose will provide you with essential data and guidance to get you started, and keep you going effectively.

What better way to start our journey together than with our 12-week Lifestyle/Fitness Challenge. Starting September 19, we challenge you to live a healthy lifestyle - get regular exercise and eat clean - for 12 weeks and get a chance at winning prizes available from our sponsors.

And, don't worry, today we provide you with what you need to get you started, and each week we will help you along the way.

So, whatever your fitness/lifestyle goals, take the challenge and the steps toward a healthy lifestyle.
