A processed food is any food that has been altered in some way during preparation. Not all processed foods are unhealthy, but some processed foods may contain high levels of salt, sugar and fat. The best indicator of how highly processed a food is can actually be found in the list of ingredients. If what you are buying contains more than five ingredients and includes a lot of unfamiliar, unpronounceable items, you should reconsider before buying.
