Vox Pop: Do you think that because men take more risks, they are idiots?

Richard Mitchell

Staff Reporter

Do you think that because men take more risks, they are idiots?

The Sunday Gleaner this week outlined the results of a study first published in the British Medical Journal that concluded that because men take more risks than women, they can easily be labelled idiots.

Yesterday, The Gleaner took to the streets to gather opinions on what Jamaicans think.

Cee Thompson

Kingston, Teacher

No! I don't think you can call all men idiots because some men do foolish things. You have to realise that both men and women take risks.

Lemarke Foster

Kingston, businessman

I can't agree with the statement. It's all about socialisation. men are socialised from a tender age to go out there and be adventurous, while we socialise our women to be sheltered, protected and cared for. So it's all about our social upbringing.

Michelle Givans

Kingston, housewife

We can't generalise! Yes, when man go party and drive fast, that's when you can call him an idiot. But the one dem weh tek care of dem family and step up, you can't call dem idiots.

Glenroy Barrant

St Catherine, security guard

Mi nah agree. Mi think a just nature. If you look at it, man [is] like [an] animal. All animal dem have the same problem."

Stacher-Ann Mitchell

St Catherine, student

I think some women do the same things. So you can't really call men alone idiots.

Aliaya Blair

St Catherine, student

Both women and men take risks. You may have some men who do it more often, but at the same time, women do those things, too.

Camille Bryan

St Catherine, manager

I don't think men are idiots because they do risky things. How else will you reach your goals or know what you can accomplish if you don't take risks?

Nigel Harriott

Kingston, sales

Men also make wise decisions! When you look at it, we, as men, just do what we have to do. Without men, nothing would be accomplished.
