Financial Secretary Devon Rowe says the Ministry of Finance and Planning has given Auditor General Pamela Monroe Ellis the green light to acquire critical resources her department needs to carry out its tasks more effectively.

The Financial Administration and Audit Act, which was amended in April 2014 to enhance the existing fiscal rules, has significantly affected the role of the auditor general.

In her annual report for financial year ending March 2014, the auditor general indicated that the planned reorganisation of her department aimed to, among other areas, build its capacity to effectively carry out the review of the fiscal rules.

Rowe told The Gleaner that additional resources were allocated in the budget for the Auditor General's Department.

"While we are working with the Auditor General's Department to put in place all the positions that are required, we have given special permission for special positions to be acquired now."
