Women’s rights health conference this Monday

Published:Saturday | March 7, 2015 | 12:00 AM

On Monday, on the heels of International Women's Day, the public is being invited to a free lecture on issues relating to human rights awareness in women's health, to be held at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in St Andrew.

Hosted by the Women's Health Network - Jamaica (WHN), a not-for-profit, advocacy non-government organisation, whose mandate is to address women's health issues in underserved communities, the public lecture will address several key issues under the theme 'Recognising and Advancing Human Rights in Women's Health'.

Dr Birgit Gerstenberg, senior human rights adviser of the United Nations in Jamaica, will be this year's guest lecturer. She will address topics such as the lengthy time women have to wait for service at public-health facilities, which sometimes results in immense suffering and death. Also on the agenda are problems associated with women's right to life.

The annual event is free to the public.
