Gleaner commits to athletics
With focused coverage of all major local and international track and field events leading up to the 2017 IAAF World Championships and a number of activities aimed at aiding the further development of Jamaica's track-and-field programme, the Gleaner Athletics project is being hailed as an innovative effort.
The media company has committed to delivering the sport in an unprecedented manner and will, over the course of the next three years, also embrace a more active and tangible role in the continued success of the island's athletics programme, with the staging of seminars, fora and training clinics geared towards the sport's stakeholders.
Among the events confirmed are training clinics focused on improving technique in the jumps, middle distances, throws and hurdles events, as well as fora and seminars on money management, anti-doping, athlete branding, among others.
Additionally, in partnership with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), The Gleaner Company has also secured exclusive access to the very popular Diamond League series and will be providing unmatched, multi-platform coverage from all 14 stops on the global circuit this season.
Editor-in-Chief Garfield Grandison underlined the company's commitment to its readership and highlighted the significance for a publication with the influence of The Gleaner, to always play an active role in shaping all facets of Jamaican life - including sports.

Gleaner Athletics will feature expanded dedicated space for the sport, including this year's World Championships in Beijing, the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, all the way through to the 2017 IAAF World Championships, full online and social media support with the creation of a track-and-field focused website, sponsorship and support of key athletics-related events, among other things.
International sports goods manufacturers PUMA, long-time sponsors of Jamaica's track-and-field programme, and stars such as Usain Bolt, Hansle Parchment and Javon Francis, has thrown its support behind the project.
Gleaner Athletics gets under way with detailed coverage of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships and continues this season with events such as The Carifta Games, IAAF World Relays, Diamond League, Penn Relays, National Senior and Junior Championships, IAAF World Youth Championships and the IAAF World Championships.
