Brown's Town High student killed by schoolmate
The Ministry of Education yesterday said it was saddened by the fatal stabbing of Jamala Barnaby, a Grade-11 student attending Brown's Town High School, allegedly, by a grade-10 student.
Following the incident, which occurred shortly before midday, Ministry of Education officials, the board chairman and Member of Parliament Dr Dayton Campbell visited the school and addressed staff and students.
The ministry said it has arranged for a trauma team to visit the school to provide counselling for students and staff on Friday.
Education Minister Ronald Thwaites has expressed condolences to family members and classmates of Jamala. He noted that this latest incident follows the non-fatal stabbing of three students in Spanish Town this week.
Thwaites appealed to students and young people in general to settle differences in a non-violent manner. He pointed to the menu of behaviour-management programmes that the ministry has introduced in schools to provide students with coping skills.
