'For every unplanned pregnancy there is one more mouth to feed'
'One need at a Time' is the mantra the Welfare Department of the Miracle Tabernacle Free Town Church of God of Prophecy lives by.
"We are aware of the fact that we will not be able to capture every need, or feed all the people who are hungry, but we keep going, focusing on those we can help," said Pastor Zebulah Aiken.
The church's feeding programme is carried out through the welfare arm, and is manned by Sophia Cameron-Angel and her team.
Each month, thanks to supplies given by Food For The Poor, some of the church members and those from the wider community, people are given basic food items.
"There are times when we have to take up a special collection to offset other grocery supplies," said Aiken.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Reacting to a United Nations report that more than 200,000 Jamaicans are going hungry, Aiken said the information offered some food for thought and the church and other charitable organisations would now have to step up to the challenge.
She, however, pointed out that others would have to do their part by living consciously.
"Plan your family wisely ... . For every unplanned pregnancy, there is one more mouth to feed," she said.
